Dressing the curator
by Lernert & Sander

In search of the story of the Dutch costume designer Jean Botter who worked for the last sultan of Turkey at the beginning of the 20th century. During our research period in Istanbul, generously sponsored by Marres, Maastricht, nothing was to be found about this dutch designer Jean Botter. Not one piece of clothing was kept in archives, musea or collections. The only thing left was his old atelier that the Sultan built for him. So we decided to work in the old atelier of Jean Botter on a handmade 501 jeans, the favorite piece of clothing of the curator Guus Beumer.
